PREFACE
________________________________________________________________________________
As a first-time reader of this book, it is necessary for you to keep a few points in mind:
First of all, this book will help three groups of people: The unbeliever, or those who may not believe in Christianity, but are searching; the believer or those who do believe in Christianity, but are in need of reaffirming basic truths and disciplines in their lives; and the new believer, or those who have just recently received salvation, but are unfamiliar with basic Christian truth. It is for this third group, the new believer, that this book is primarily written.
Second, the Bible teaches, literally, hundreds of facts about life and God's universe, all of which are good, true and important: However, not all of them are immediately essential to the new believer. As such, this book is written with the utmost simplicity of Christianity in mind. The result is a wide variety of topics with minimal detail, rather than a wide variety of detail on minimal topics.
Third, because much of the terminology of the Bible will be new to you, all unusual words will be explained as you read along.
Fourth, because many of the Bible scriptures quoted in this book are not entirely self-explanatory, adequate explanations will be given as needed.
Please note also that all scripture quoted from the Bible will appear in BOLD PRINT along with its reference. This has been done so that you will easily be able to differentiate between God's words and my own commentary.
I have also inserted special notes at crucial moments called Action Points. The object of these Action Points is to ask you to either think about and/or do something that will be essential to your Christian walk. In many instances, when you come across an Action
So, whether you are a new believer, believer or unbeliever, my hope is that you will find this book both an informative presentation of Christianity and a valuable source of Bible truth.
CHAPTER ONE

CHRISTIANITY - WHAT IS IT ALL ABOUT?
MARK 1:14,15
".... Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the Kingdom of God,
And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel."
CHRISTIANITY - WHAT IS IT?
To begin with, Christianity is a word which is used to describe a way of life or belief system and within that system, its adherents are called Christians. So, for you to understand what this system is all about, you must first understand the word "Christian."
The word "Christian" comes from the root word "Christ," which is a Greek word that means "the Anointed". It is basically used as a title that would be attached to someone's name, similar to the way in which we would use the title of doctor as in Doctor White, Doctor Jones, etc.. Now, although the title "Christ" can and is used to identify a variety of people in the Christian system of beliefs, it is used primarily to identify one person, and that person is Jesus, referred to as Jesus, the Christ - in essence, Jesus, the Anointed. Christianity then is a system of belief based on the teachings and life of Jesus Christ. A Christian, therefore, is someone who is a follower of Jesus Christ and his teachings.
ACTION POINT # 100
CHRISTIANITY
At this time write down in your own words a brief description and/or explanation of what Christianity is.
JESUS CHRIST - WHO IS HE?
Jesus was born approximately 4 B.C. in the City of Bethlehem in the nation of Israel. His mother's name was Mary, and his father was Joseph. He had both brothers and sisters. His nationality was Jewish and, therefore, he lived according to the customs and laws of the Jewish culture. In all respects, for that day, he basically had a normal upbringing, although as he grew older, Jesus did study the doctrines of the Jewish religion.
As a young man, Jesus worked as a carpenter with his father and helped provide for the needs of his family. Jesus never married or had any children, and so was free to dedicate his spare time wholly to God and the study of Jewish scripture. At approximately the age of thirty, he left home and began his public ministry. He began to travel the nearby cities and the countryside, reaching out to people in love, sharing the truths that he had learned and praying for those who were sick. When he prayed, the power of God was manifested in him as people were healed of every type of disease. In time, his following grew, he chose twelve men to travel with him whom he trained by his teachings and then sent out to share his message. Much of what Jesus taught was new and in opposition to the traditions of the Jewish religion of that day. Because of this and the great numbers of people that
began to believe his message, the Jewish leaders saw him as a threat to their positions and control over the people ,therefore, sought after his life in order to stop his teachings from spreading.
For the next three years, Jesus continued to teach and travel about. Then in less than a week, it was all over. Jesus was captured, falsely accused, judged, found guilty and crucified on a cross. At approximately the age of thirty-three, Jesus was dead, and his ministry on earth was ended.
Although he had such a short ministry and never traveled very far, the full impact of his ministry was not manifested until after his death. Yes, even in our day, it seems that the spread of his teachings are unstoppable. The powerful demonstration of his miracles continue, and the ever-increasing growth of his followers is undaunted.
How could this be, and why would Jesus' death be so important? Well, there is one important detail about Jesus that I have so far left out, that is: Jesus was not an ordinary man like you or I, but rather was God's own son revealed through a body of flesh. Although his body was crucified on a cross, Jesus' spirit never died. Then in order to show us this truth, and because he never sinned, he revived his body three days after his crucifixion. He then visited with some of his followers, and even with those who had not believed. A short time later, Jesus returned to heaven above, taking his body of flesh with him. (Heaven, what is that? Heaven is the place where God lives - a place of complete purity, peace, love, wholeness and truth). It is there that the Christian religion, as we know it today, had its real beginning.

CONCLUSION
________________________________________________________________________________
II TIMOTHY 2:15
"Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth
not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."
The Bible is rich with spiritual truth, and there is much, much more for you to study and learn beyond what has been written in this book. Therefore, this book is just the beginning of your spiritual adventure as a Christian on earth. The more you study and learn, the better you will be equipped to face the challenges that lay ahead.
Jesus was once asked, "what is the greatest law of God?" His response was that you love God first and then one another. In truth, love of God and fellow Christians is the greatest law because throughout the span of your entire Christian life, you will experience nothing more stimulating than the relationship you have with God and your fellow Christians. However, keep in mind that the degree to which your life is stimulated by God and other Christians will be in direct proportion to how near you draw to them.
How do you draw near to God and your fellow Christians? There is only one way, and that is by doing everything you have read in this book and beyond that, everything you have yet to read in the Bible. No, there are no simple formulas, no instant methods, and yes, the life you lead as a Christian is not an easy one. However, for those who are Christians and choose to have a continually growing relationship with God and their fellow Christians, there is no substitute for a dedicated and disciplined daily Christian life.
My hope, now that you have read this book, is that you have a clear picture of what Christianity is all about. In the end, however, I know you will have more questions than there are answers given in this book, and that is okay because this book was not meant to answer all your questions, but rather to direct you to the source that can. Remember, the Bible and only the Bible is your source of truth and guidebook to living as a Christian, and, Jesus Christ is your only example of a perfect Christian life.
